| Cultivating a Moving Meditation Practice With Brittany Snedden Tuesdays, May 21st - June 25, 2013 8:30 - 10:00PM Tristhana refers to the union between three areas of focus in a Yoga practice: Breath, Bandha (physical locks) and Dristhi (or gaze). When harnessed properly, they help turn movement into meditation. In this six week workshop you will learn the fundamentals of Tristhana and how to apply it to your Yoga practice. You will also answer the following questions: - Am I breathing properly? - How do the Bandhas work and how do I know if I'm doing them properly? - How do i focus my attention properly? - Aren't Meditation and Asana separate parts of the practice? | Half the Sky Movement: A Film Screening Fundraiser Saturday, June 1st, 2013 8:00PM - 10:00PM Last month over 30 people came together at Kula Oakville to witness a documentart that opened our hearts and generously raised $800, let's see if we can keep the love going ! The Half the Sky Movement is cutting across platforms to ignite the change needed to put an end to the oppression of women and girls worldwide, the defining issue of our time. Inspired by journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book of the same name, the Half the Sky Movement brings together video, websites, games, blogs and other educations tools to not only raise awareness of women's issues, but to also provide concrete steps to fight these problems and empower women. This month Brittany Sneddon and Kula Oakville will be hosting a screening of the first part of the film series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, a documentary shot in 10 countries: Cambodia, Kenya, India, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Liberia and the U.S. Traveling with intrepid reporter Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates, the series introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable - and fighting bravely to change them.
